Apple cider vinegar is another home remedy that has been used for hundreds of years. There have been many claims with using apple cider vinegar such as reducing infections, balancing high cholesterol, promoting weight loss and improving digestion. Studies have offered conflicting results on the subject, but many people swear by the curing ability of apple cider vinegar.

Apple cider vinegar is a natural bacteria-fighting agent that contains many vital minerals and trace elements such as potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, chlorine, sodium, sulfur, copper, iron, silicon and fluorine that are vital for a healthy body. (homeremediesweb.com) Some of the popular health claims of using apple cider vinegar are:

Reduces infections and sore throats
Balance high cholesterol
Cure skin conditions such as acne
Protect against food poisoning
Fight allergies in both humans and animals
Prevent muscle fatigue after exercise
Strengthen the immune system
Increase stamina
Increase metabolism which promotes weight loss
Improve digestion and cure constipation
Alleviate symptoms of arthritis and gout

Apple cider vinegar can be taken orally to heal internal ailments or applied topically to treat skin conditions such as acne or age spots. In either instance it is important that you are using a natural, organic apple cider vinegar. Bragg is a well-known brand and is usually sold raw and unfiltered, which means it contains more enzymes. When taken orally, apple cider vinegar should always be diluted due to the high acidic value. If not diluted, you could risk enamel damage or damage to tissues in your mouth and throat. Apple cider vinegar can be added to juice as well if you can’t handle the taste when mixed solely with water. However, mixing with juice will up the acidic value so just be cautious. If you are having a tough time drinking it with water, try adding a sweetener such as honey to make it more palatable.

The recommended dosage when taking apple cider vinegar is 1 tsp per 8 oz of water. You can do this twice a day or mix 2 tsps of the vinegar with 16 oz of water and sip on it throughout the day.

If using as a topical treatment for acne, mix 1 part apple cider vinegar with 3 parts water. Apply to face with a cotton swab and leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse and repeat twice a day.

Whether or not the health claims are true, if you are going to try apple cider vinegar as a home remedy make sure to talk with your doctor before starting. Your doctor will be able to tell you if the apple cider vinegar will interfere with any medications you may be taking.

From my previous posts about ginger and aloe, you have probably guessed that I am always up for trying home remedies before seeking medication. Natural healing is better healing in my book.

Let me know what you guys think. Have you tried home remedies before? Have you found ones that work? What do you think about using apple cider vinegar?
