I came across this new zero-energy Bio Robot refrigerator and thought I would share it with all of you. Kinda funky, what do you think?
The Bio Refrigerator was created by the Russian designer Yuriy Dmitriev and is referred to as the “gel-filled appliance of the future”. The fridge is composed of 90% usable space that is made up of biopolymer gel that suspends and cools the food once inserted. The appliance can be hung on the wall and displayed horizontally, vertically, or even upside down on the ceiling. To use, you simply shove food into the odorless gel, and through luminescence, the food is preserved until ready to use. No doors or drawers, just a wall mount that doesn’t require a motor and what could be the next best household space and energy-saver.
Whether or not Yuriy Dmitriev’s design will come to fruition is left to be seen. For now he has landed himself as a finalist in the Electrolux Design Lab competition where contestants were challenged to redesign appliances for the future. I think he has definitely taken the standard design of the refrigerator to a whole new level.
